Rebecca Minkoff FW20
Words By: Katie Farley
Escalating from the narrative of Fall Winter 2019's "working girl" themed presentation, Rebecca Minkoff's Spring Summer 2020 fashion story remains to evolve, and this season extracts inspiration from the concept of rebirth. The designer presents this notion through a showcase that exhibits and commemorates collective factors of being a woman, including working and raising a family. Her work takes us through periods of transformation and rejoices in what it is to be alive.
Styled in a juxtaposition of sea blues, pastel pinks, sandy nudes, burnt orange, and mellow yellows, the alluring collection illustrates new dresses and separates that can be put together in various ways. Rebecca Minkoff's show notes expressed, "I wanted to design from our origins of a "west meets east coast" sensibility, by integrating natural elements of the earth tones, floral patterns, and silhouettes."
Unapologetically completing each look with personality and pizazz, an assortment of handbags carries the line of accessories well, presented in a collision of vivid splashes which decorated neon-colored leather mini crossbodies, as well as shoulder bags that featured faux snakeskin and woven textures. Surprizing details such as bows, pearls, and oversized platforms embellished the array of footwear options that brought an extra playful appendage to the collection. Further accessories completed the range with layered chain necklaces, yin yang pendants, and multi-color beaded bracelets that delivered a tantalizing, and sea-shore vibe.
With motherhood still acting as an essential element of Rebecca's day-to-day life, which is an evolution of the previous season, the set design included a model who was breastfeeding and Medela pumps.
Minkoff's Spring Summer 2020 presentation will celebrate the designer's leading venture into creating clothing for children – introducing the unveiling of Little Minkoff, an ethical fashion collection that reflects the spirit of Rebecca, outfitted in sustainable options, which are playful and vibrant.
A unique technology is instilled throughout the kid's clothing line that aims to alleviate waste, labor, and packaging amid a system of block-chain traceability. To elucidate overstocking that would theoretically finish in landfills, the process of the garment making commences only when an order is placed. All materials employed are composed of biodegradable fabrics, bluesign-approved reactive links (eco-friendly), and uses 50% less water to manufacture. Available online at www.littleminkoff.com in February 2020, Little Minkoff boasts a selection of children's sizes, from 4 to 12.
Always encapsulating a vivacious, spirited, and colorful aesthetic, Rebecca Minkoff's collections attract attention from stylish socialites and young celebrities alike, creating fun and excitement with every collection.
