Since last summer sustainable British brand Teatum Jones has been working with the British Fashion Council to pioneer the ‘Positive Fashion’ movement. The label has previously been awarded the International Woolmark Prize and winners of the British Fashion Trust, as well as being finalists in the Green Carpet Franca Sozzani emerging Designer Award.
This season, Catherine Teatum and Rob Jones joined an esteemed panel of Fashion Designers, Industry Insiders, and Activists while collaborating with London label Mother of Pearl and The British Fashion Council to illustrate their encouragement of BBC Earth and Positive Fashion.
“We were asked by designer and friend Amy Powney to be guest speakers on the BBC Earth x Mother of Pearl Panel at LFW” explains designer Rob Jones. “Our role on the panel was to discuss our approach of being 'method designers' and how this relates to our approach to ethics and sustainability. Being a brand that creates fashion from human stories, taking into consideration the craftspeople and humans behind the creation of our fabrics is integral to our design process. “
When speaking about their latest collection, it's clear that they are continuing with their mission to affect the world less with their designs. “This season we continued to re-purpose archive season fabrics and trims in new ways and reduce the waste from creating completely new collections and fabrics,” says Jones. “There are so many materials created in fashion that get left behind after one season. It's become blindingly obvious that this is unsustainable and so we are tackling it within our studio by breathing new life into these beautifully crafted materials.”
Teatum Jones obtained truly empowering notes which were extracted from the conversations they collected last season during their ‘Roundtable Not Runway’ program, which resulted in a strong philosophy for Autumn/Winter 2019 season as these messages seem to be implanted into the collections color palette and choice of textiles.
The collection is a presentation of bold, vibrant and unapologetic textiles, invariably resonating the positivity, hope, and enlightenment. The brand is a reflection of how fashion can attain sustainable attributes while looking breath-taking in equal measures.
